With the principle of user-friendliness and improving the
quality of people's living environment, Zhongshan government
carries out the urban construction with high standards and
efficiency. In recent years, Zhongshan city is taking on a
new look with each passing day with the improvement of its
infrastructures, providing its citizens with an environment
comfortable to live, learn and work. At present, the green
area within the city proper reaches 920 hectares, common
green area per capita 11 sq. meters and the green coverage
38%. Zhongshan successively won the titles of National Clean
City, National Model City for Urban Planning and Management,
National Garden City, National Model City for Environmental
Protection, China's Top City of Tourism, National Model City
in Implementing the Easy-traffic Project, and the 1997 Habitat
Scroll of Honor Award by the United Nations.
A convenient road network of 1,345 kilometers has formed
in Zhongshan, extending to all directions from its backbone
the national trunk roads, the local trunk roads and the
Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway. Within a radius of 90 kilometers,
there are 5 big airports in the vicinity of Zhongshan, located
respectively in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Hong Kong and Macao.
Railways have access to all parts of China via Guangzhou. A
Triangle of Ports has taken shape with the opening of the
southern Shenwan Port plus the eastern Zhongshan Port and the
northern Xiaolan Port. The Zhongshan Port ranks among the top
ten national ports and top 100 international ports in terms of
container handling capacity. It takes only 75 minutes from
Zhongshan Port to Hong Kong by hydrofoil, nine shuttle voyages
a day.
Zhongshan has abundant supplies of water and electricity.
And the Zhongshan Information Highway, a broadband network of
information with high speed and large capacity, has been
established, linking the pivotal city proper to all township
institutions as well as large- and medium-sized enterprises.
